You in your relationships

Maybe you need to work through how growing up in your family is still affecting you. Perhaps you need to recover from a relationship that has overwhelmed and hurt you? Maybe you need some individual therapy alongside your couples work?

Sometimes we just need a little space to do a confidential, no holding back, very personal debrief. Then when we understand ourselves a little better, we can get going again.

Infertility

Maybe you are struggling to conceive and the anxiety is making things worse. Perhaps infertility is 'medically unexplained' and you wonder what your body might be communicating. Maybe you are ending IVF and need to take stock.

Infertility is a very difficult issue to navigate. because it makes us feel powerless and ashamed. If you have been a victim of childhood neglect and abuse, these dreadful feelings already have an echo. Psychotherapy alongside body-based practices can help you to navigate a deeply emotional time.

Childhood Trauma

Perhaps you realize you are repeating the same pattern in your relationships? Maybe you go looking for trouble and can't stop yourself? Perhaps you suffer from physical symptoms that get worse when you feel afraid? Maybe you know your childhood story but can't move on from it.

Trauma-informed psychotherapy means working on how past experiences show up in the present - in our relationships and in our body. Also in my experience, our deeply hurt and frightened younger self will bring us into therapy because they need a deep and caring connection to rely on while they grow stronger.

Sarah Hanchet, UKCP

I am a UKCP adult psychotherapist. My postgraduate trainings include psychodynamic psychotherapy and group psychotherapy.

I have a special interest in medically unexplained infertility and its potential links to childhood trauma. My work is trauma-informed which means I try to help you live more healthily in the present by understanding the hold that the past has over you.

We will look together at your childhood. We'll explore your sense of being you in your key relationships; put feelings into words; make connections and deepen your sense of self-awareness. We'll work on issues of loss, sense of identity and personal transition.

In addition to working deeply with your inner world, I am also rather practical and I can't always keep my sense of humor to myself. The Wisdom Is In The Room means that I believe you have the capacity to grow. In my experience, we are helped a great deal by our strong, dependable, caring and containing relationships.
