Psychotherapy For Relationships

Relationship difficulties

We can think deeply about you in your relationships. When difficulties arise, we always play our part, but we don't always understand why or how we come across.

We will explore the impact of dynamics that are out of awareness, and how your past shows up in your present.

Do you know how your early experiences continue to affect you? Can you see how you are getting in your own way? Are you curious as to why you might have "married your parent"?

We'll think about early attachment patterns; siblings and family set-up; how emotions were managed, for example shame and loss.

Our work is to support you to explore how to live and relate with a deeper understanding of yourself in a relationship.

Relationship Trauma

Trauma: when we fear we may not survive.

We push unbearable feelings back into our body & we build defenses against feeling.

But we're driven to heal ourselves, so we stage a drama to activate our repressed feelings - often on repeat.

With experience, our protection system feels increasingly self-destructive and dysfunctional, & it holds us back.

In trauma therapy we can help you to upgrade your defenses. We can't change the past, only make peace with it.

Therapy can help you to get unstuck, but it is a courageous journey into our inner world, that takes time (it needs open-ended therapy).

Our work is to help you to live more peacefully in the present.

Infertility & Trauma

Infertility & Trauma

I work with women with medically unexplained infertility.

Adverse events in childhood including neglect, abuse and family difficulties affect fertility.

We focus on what you've come to believe from others about your body and your own self-worth. We look at who you became, growing up in your family and in your relationships.

Our protection systems are threatened when we can't get pregnant & we head for the IVF clinic, as a rational solution.

But we're carrying deeply repressed anxieties. These take time and a strong, trusting relationship to untangle.

Our work is to help you understand how your story is affecting your body.
